My name is Yordanos Belay, I am 20 years old, and I originally come from Eritrea. In December 2020, I arrived in the United Kingdom as a young asylum seeker, like many others who leave their home countries in search of safety and a better future. I am currently pursuing my first year of a Pharmacy apprenticeship with Fisher Chemist, which allows me to balance my passion for science with my desire to make a positive impact on the community.
Leaving Eritrea at a young age and coming to the UK brought many challenges, from adapting to a new culture to learning a new language. However, it also gave me opportunities to grow, pursue my education, and connect with supportive communities. One of the key challenges I faced, like many refugees, was overcoming the language barrier and trying to build a future in a new environment. It was a difficult path, but I am proud of the progress I’ve made, and now I want to use my journey to inspire other young African refugees.
The reason I want to be vote for Miss Africa Great Britain 2024 is to become the face of young African refugees, especially those who, like me, have struggled to integrate and build their lives in the UK. I want to show them that despite the challenges, it is possible to thrive, learn, and achieve your dreams in a new country.
By representing young African refugees, I aim to be a role model for others, showing them that they are not alone in their struggles, and that with perseverance, they can overcome obstacles and shape their future. I want them to see themselves in me and realize that they too can build a meaningful life no matter where they come from.
o they want to be and that nothing can stop them from fulfilling their fill potential.
