MISS AFRICA PAGEANT UK
The Miss Africa pageant is an African Beauty pageant in the UK and was founded in 2011. Initially known as Miss Black Africa UK, the name was changed to Miss Africa to show inclusivity and demonstrate that it is open to all people of African descent in the UK.
The Miss Africa pageant is open to all African girls that are legally resident in the UK.
WHY MISS AFRICA GB IN THE UK?
African pageants in the UK are seen by some as going against the cultural values and what is expected of African women.
As an African pageant in the UK, in 2013, we decide to do away with the bikini section of the pageant and replaced it with the fitness in swimwear section.
Our finalists now wear a one-piece swimsuit and may wrap a sarong around themselves if they choose to do so.
The pageant has metamorphosized from a small London pageant to one of the most highly anticipated annual community events in the United Kingdom.
The Miss Africa Pageant aims at raising a new generation of African women leaders. We hope to project the image of the African woman as one who is beautiful inside out, knowledgeable, understanding, passionate, and an instrument for change to her community and the world at large.
The Pageant empowers African girls in the UK to shine the spotlight on Africa through their pageant platform.
Our delegates are very intelligent young women from some of the most highly respected educational institutions in the UK with some of the most amazing careers.
As an African pageant in the UK, we strive to instill into these ambitious women, the spirit of giving and the importance of being a shining example to African women worldwide.
The mission of Miss Africa is to motivate, encourage and empower young ladies of African backgrounds through mentoring, leadership development, capacity building, and collaboration to develop a sense of self-worth, self-confidence, belief, and nation-building.
