MISS BLACK AFRICA UK , PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE NIGERIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER

The newly crowned Miss Black Africa UK 2013, Sonia Ike paid a courtesy call to The Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK on Wednesday, the 11th of December in London.

She was well hosted by the High Commissioner and officials of the embassy and In her own words,stated that " I was warmly received by the High Commissioner and the other officials. I am so proud to have someone so humble as the representative Head of Nigerians in the UK. "

Present at the meeting were the High Commissioner, His Excellency, Dr Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, OFR, CFR, Major General J.M. Ogidi (Defence Adviser), Mr A.S. Ogah (Minister, Head of Information, culture and sports), Dr C.U. Gwam (Minister, Head of Political affairs), Mr S.A. Adelemi (Minister, Head of Trade & Investment),Mr T.G. Adeniyi Special assistant to the High Commissioner and other Ministers.

She was accompanied by Mr Dele Onabowu (Director, Miss Black Africa UK), Mr Bimbo Afolayan (Chairman, Central Association of Nigerians UK) and Miss Ruvimbo Chinzou (Miss Black Africa UK 2011) from Zimbabwe. The meeting was to pay a courtesy call to the Nigerian High Commissioner being the first Nigerian to win the Miss Black Africa title. The proceeding also included the Launch of the “Queens 4 Africa Project” and her proposed tour of Nigeria.

Sonia stated that she would like to follow the footsteps of her predecessors, Samaia Tchapesseka and Ruvimbo Chinzou both of which who carried out charity missions in their home countries, Angola and Zimbabwe respectively. The Miss Black Africa pageant which is the largest ethnic pageant in the UK is open to girls of Sub Saharan origin which encompasses East, West, Central and Southern Africa.

During her tour of Nigeria, Sonia will be visiting central school (St Philips)Ddimagu and Central School 7 primary school, Okohia in her native Imo State where she will be carrying out renovation works to the classrooms, external building works and providing books for a Library. There will also be an essay writing competition with a cash prize of N25, 000 for the winner.
